Uncompromising, Drought-Resilient Landscapes for Working Land
At Kevin Wood Landscapes, we engineer heavy-duty, drought-tolerant landscapes for the demanding, working properties of Thrall. We understand that on active farms and rural homesteads, every element must be functional, durable, and require minimal resources. Our focus is on creating ultra-resilient plantings that can thrive with little to no irrigation, prevent erosion across fields and pastures, and stand up to the intense Texas elements with virtually zero upkeep.
Our design approach is direct and built for performance. We utilize a rugged palette of the toughest native grasses and deep-rooted perennials that are naturally adapted to survive and stabilize the soil. This includes drought-defying champions like Buffalograss for large, low-traffic areas, the erosion-controlling root systems of Blue Grama and Side Oats Grama, the structural, water-wise forms of Yucca, and hardy, self-seeding wildflowers like Coreopsis and Indian Blanket. These plants are selected for their ability to establish quickly, prosper on natural rainfall alone, and withstand the challenging conditions of rural life.
We integrate these tough plantings with purely functional, low-maintenance hardscaping. This includes gravel and aggregate surfaces for high-traffic areas, reinforced drainage swales for stormwater management, and the use of native rock for simple, durable edging. By implementing a truly drought-resilient design, we create a landscape that functions as dependable infrastructure—dramatically reducing water use, eliminating mowing and frequent maintenance, and providing a sustainable, no-nonsense solution for the working lands of Thrall.
