Heavy-Duty, Drought-Resilient Landscapes for Large Properties
At Kevin Wood Landscapes, we design robust, low-water landscapes for the expansive farms, ranches, and large lots of Granger. We understand that on sizable acreage, plantings must be exceptionally tough, able to withstand full sun, wind, and variable soils with minimal irrigation or care. Our approach creates sweeping, naturalistic vistas that are deeply drought-resilient, prevent soil erosion, and dramatically reduce the water and maintenance demands of managing large tracts of land.
Our design process is built for scale and durability. We select a hardy palette of deep-rooted native grasses, flowering perennials, and architectural succulents that are born for the Texas environment. This includes drought-defying workhorses like Buffalo Grass and Blue Grama for vast, low-water meadow areas, the striking structural forms of Sotol and Yucca, the silvery, ground-covering Woolly Stemodia, and tough flowering plants like Prairie Verbena and Winecup. These species are chosen for their ability to thrive on natural rainfall once established, stabilize soil on slopes, and provide habitat for wildlife and pollinators.
We integrate these resilient plantings with practical, large-scale hardscaping. This includes gravel driveways and farm roads, simple dry creek beds for drainage management, and the strategic use of native stone for functional edging. By fully embracing a drought-tolerant philosophy, we create a landscape that is both breathtakingly natural and incredibly low-input—conserving vast amounts of water, eliminating the need for constant mowing and watering, and providing a sustainable, enduring beauty that is perfectly suited to the working lands and open skies of Granger.
